GOVERNMENT BILL 83

Senator Erich M. Fabricius submitted the following report regarding Government Bill 83, "An Act to Revise the Senate Rules Concerning the Administration of Senate Committees", on Monday, March 18, 2002, on behalf of the Government Operations Committee, and pursuant to its March 6, 2002 recommendations, by general consent:

As provided by Senate Rule 12(b), the committee requests that the Senate President place Government Bill 83 on the calendar for second reading.

Attendance:

There were seven (7) Senators (Denton, Fabricius, Joyner, Mangum, Tatum, White, Wright) present;

There are one (1) Senator (Brown) absent;

A quorum was present.

Purpose of the Legislation:

The Committee Administration Act is a revision to the rules concerning operation of committees. The act notably includes several new provisions for notice of certain actions and formalizes the position of Vice-chair.

Debate:

The committee review the lanuage of the bill, and agreed that the bill contained simple but worthwhile changes.

Recommendations:

The Committee recommends that the Senate consider the Committee Adminstration Act.

Numerous amendments, as attached.
