RESOLUTION 47

Senator Gary Palin submitted the following report regarding Resolution 47, "An Act Concerning the Formulation of a Commision to Study the Issue of Academic Advising at NCSU", on Monday, February 5, 2001, on behalf of the Academics Committee, and pursuent to its February 4, 2001 recommendations, by unamimous consent:

Attendance:

There were eight (8) Senators (Atkinson, Craver, Devore, Feucht, Mineiro, Palin, Peck, Ramirez.) present;

There were zero (0) Senators () absent;

A quorum was present.

Purpose of the Legislation:

Resolution 47, the Academic Advising Act, seeks to have the office of the Provost form a commission to study the issue of academic advising.

Background Information:

This resolution was refered to senate for second reading for the January 31 reading. Upon the receipt of information that a group might have been in existence that completed this goal, the resolution was refered back to Academics.

Debate:

As the chair of the committee had been informed by the director the Virtual Advising Center, it was determined that the goals of the bill had already been obtained, and thus the bill was not needed.

Recommendations:

The committee on Academics has tabled Resolution 47 and does not recommend Senate consideration at this time.
