Election of Secretary:

Winner – Brandon Whitney

Campus Safety Initiative:

Tommy Ozbolt spoke about the progress that has been made in organizing and implementing the CSI program, members of the committee signed up to participate, and the committee discussed the potential for CSI to impact the campus, as well as the possible problems that may need to be addressed.

Dinning Liaison report:

Brian Carty spoke about the proposed $5 increase to all meal plans, the problems with Clark Dinning Hall, the possible improvement to the Talley Dinning area, and why there has been no progress in the effort to use All-Campus cards on Hillsborough Street. The committee discussed the reasons that the university could not enter into any agreement with private businesses on Hillsborough Street, and entertained the idea of proposing a deal with a local bank – probably Wachovia – for students to spend money on Hillsborough Street. The idea was not very well received.

Assignment of Official Liaisons:

Campus Police – Brandon Whitney
Dinning – Brian Carty
Transportation – Jeff Ennis
(Unofficial) Facilities – vacant
(Unofficial) Health – Kim Alexander
(Unofficial) Bookstores – vacant

Representatives to Standing Committees:
Bookstores – vacant
Dinning – Brian Carty
Student Health – Kim Alexander
Physical Environment – vacant
Nightwalk:

The committee discussed ways to provide the services that Nightwalk usually provides, in the absence of a fall Nightwalk. It was the consensus of the committee that, rather than organize a “barebones” Nightwalk this semester, we should put all of our support into the CSI program, which would provide the same service to the campus.

New Business:

- Health Center publicity
- Get a representative from University Dining to come to a committee meeting,
possibly October 30, 2002
- Should we create an avenue for students to voice opinions to Student Government
- Get a representative from Transportation to come to a committee meeting
- College council issues
