Meeting Minutes:
R 61 Union Governance Act
Leadership is taking offense on about this bill, but are trying to rectify the situation. Board did not do personnel evaluations. This is not provided for in the Union Constitution. Evaluations can take place now, but Union’s changes would not take place until after elections. There should have been a committee forum to address these issues.
There is a requirement for president of the union, the person should have had a better idea of what they were doing. There needs to be a committee established for more protections and more structures. The union leadership, staff and student, should follow the union constitution, they need to take care of these duties. There was no sign of a financial agreement until the last meeting. Administration has tried to stall information from going to the board. No longer board of directors, but board that issues recommendations. The board has allowed administration to take power out of its hands. Need to increase attention to the fact that there is a problem. 1st step is the realize there is a problem, the administration refuses to do that. Board was no notified of the resignation of the president. Administration did not inform anyone. Possibly not necessary to pass this bill now, but to wait and see what the administration will do to address this problem, offending them may not be the best course of action. The may not be a way to achieve a short term correction. Strong statement may need to be made. This bill will be a topic at the next board of directors meeting, should we wait until after then? They know it’s a problem, and it is important to get something done. There has been pressure in previous years, but it was not enough, the administration did not take notice to the board. The administration needs to know that there is a desire for a change. Let the board be involved in a solution. This bill does that. There may not be time if we wait until later. This bill does not address any of the outside problems, it’s a “kick in the pants.” There is motion to reorganize the constitution. Waiting until next board meeting is acceptable, but we still need a goal of revision. Perhaps we should write a new constitution, and not even involve the board. Perhaps it should go into the Senate and let them make the statement. Some were elected, some “sneaked” in. The administrators are obstructing the desires of the students on the board. If adopted, it gets publicity, and more people will address it. It will build pressure on the board to get something done.
Reported to Senate by consent.
GB 75 Football Campout Policy Act
After Dr. Stafford said what he said, then he reversed what he said.
Adams: I wouldn’t say he reversed it. He said if we had a clear plan. He was pretty serious when he said there will be no campouts.
Stephenson: I don’t see the need to amend it.
Adams: it is not time sensitive and we need to work on it.
Stephenson: the plan is similar to basketball
Adams: if we don’t go to him with a plan we forfeit the little bit of power we have over football.
Stephenson: there are a few changes with the schedule, we moved campout.
Brandon Kuntz: I’m vice president of the student Wolfpack Club. We were talking about 900 tickets.
Adams: to change the original allotment, you need to talk to athletics.
Mr. Kuntz: I think we need some support. I guess we’re just trying to keep the idea on you all’s mind.
Adams: Wolfpack club can go through the normal distribution.
Mr. Kuntz: Having to swipe every card in the morning wouldn’t take too much time. Our club has increased two to three hundred people in the past few years. I think it hurts all athletics because we run out of tickets too early. We have 730 and we’re trying to go to 900.
Changes made to campout approved.
