NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY STUDENT SENATE
85TH SESSION, 2005-2006

COMMITTEE REPORT
Report No. GO-46

Committee Minutes, Wednesday, March 15th 2006

Secretary Stephanie Griggs submitted the following report to the Student Senate on Monday, March 20th 2006, on behalf of the Government Operations Committee, and pursuant to its Wednesday, March 15th 2006 recommendations:

Attendance:

There were eight (8) members (Griggs, Gula, Heath, Hutcherson, Norman, K. Phillips, Walton, Yasin) present.

There were no members absent.

The following officials were also present: Barnes, Compton, Fabricius, Godfrey, Hassell, F. Hinton, Mickey, Piavis, Sawrey, Sevits.

A quorum was present.

Meeting Overview:

Also present was Evelyn Reiman, Mari Matsumoto, Christine Difiefro, Zachary Moser-Katz, Chris English, Mark Mzyk.

The committee took care of business regarding the elections commission and then began to discuss SR123.

Meeting Minutes:

The committee confirmed Senator Barnes as technical administrator. Motion to confirm from Senator Hutcherson, seconded by Senator Heath, decided by voice vote.

The committee endorsed for fast-track Brannon Foster as elections commmissioner.

It was noted that at the elections commission meeting on 3/14/06, Stafford held that only full-time students who paid the (full) fee should be allowed to vote and participate. The elections commission decided by acclimation that the fee charged by the cashier's office (prorated or full) allows enfranchisement and citizenship.

The committee then moved to discuss SR123.
Evelyn Reiman passed out the SG code of ethics to all committe members and suggest that it be used as a cornerstone.

The committee members introduced themselves and briefly discussed their expectations.

Senator Hutcherson read each specification in the first charge and the corresponding Student Body Statute if applicable. Senator Fabricius would then comment on the specification. President Piavis would be allowed to make a comment. Other committee members or attendees would be allowed to comment or ask questions. President Piavis would be allowed to respond to each. President Piavis chose to defer all questions, some of which he requested in writing, until the next meeting. This format was similar for each specification.
