COMMITTEE REPORT
Report No. GO-54
Committee Minutes, Wednesday, March 29th 2006
Secretary Stephanie Griggs submitted the following report to the Student Senate on Monday, April 3rd 2006, on behalf of the Government Operations Committee, and pursuant to its Wednesday, March 29th 2006 recommendations:
Attendance:
There were six (6) members (Griggs, Heath, Hutcherson, K. Phillips, Walton, Yasin) present.
There were two (2) members (Gula, Norman) absent.
The following officials were also present: Fabricius, Hassell, Peters, Sawrey, Toms.
A quorum was present.
Meeting Overview:
The committee confirmed a second elections technical administrator. The elections commission chair gave the committee a report. SR 123, GB 37, GB 106, SB 76, and GB 95 were reviewed. PB 146 was actually sent to the finance committee.
Meeting Minutes:
Elections Technical Administrator:
Senator Walton moved to confirm Andrew DePompa as Technical Administrator; no objections; confirmed. DePompa is to work with Senator Barnes to discuss the strategy in regards to the ballot.
Elections Commission Report:
The elections commission chair, Kevin Hassell, gave a report to the committee that included information in regrards to the ballot and and hearings. It was also noted that they voted down on the request to find out where the money given to the candidates came from though the reason for the request was to make sure no laws had been broken.
SR 123:
There was short discussion on the legislation and what to do in the future regarding this problem. It was noted that Dr. Stafford did not want to enter into dialogue in regards to the 14th Amendment in relation to the impeachment in Student Government in his discussion with Senator Hutcherson.
Senator Fabricius "moves that the committee on government operations is unable due to university interference to proceed in a timely manner allowing consideration, hereby discontinues its consideration of senate resolution 123"; Senator Heath seconded and called consent; Senator Walton objected. There was a voice vote and the motion passed.
GB 137:
Senator Fabricius motioned to disconsider the bill. Senator Walton seconded the motion. There were no objections. Senator Fabricius requested state auditor be contacted concerning funding of OCRA.
GB 106:
Senator Fabricius is to write the bill to be considered in the next Government Operations meeting.
SB 76:
Senator Fabricius moved to recall the the government operations committee report on SB 76 and discontinue consideration on the bill. Senator Walton seconded. There were no objections.
GB 95:
Senator Fabricius moved to discontinue consideration of GB 95. Senator Yasin seconded this motion. Senator Walton objected. There was a voice vote and the motion passed.
*A special note for this part of the meeting: Vice-chair Heath had the opportunity to chair this part of the meeting as Senator Hutcherson is only a part-time student.*
