A RESOLUTION CONCERNING THE STUDENT CENTER OPERATIONS FEE INCREASE

 

Short Title: Student Center Operations Fee Increase. (Public)

WHEREAS, the University Student Center is requesting a $10.00 fee increase; and,

WHEREAS, over the last five years, salaries for permanent employees have increased by 21.7% due to legislative increases; and,

WHEREAS, during that same period of time, the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers for the Southern Urban region has increased by 16.2%; and,

WHEREAS, while the fees have remained constant, the cost of personnel goods and services has gone up each year; and,

WHEREAS, there was very little information given as to the particulars of the increase, and where the money would be allocated; and,

WHEREAS, supporting an increase that in large part would go to mandated inflation increases from the legislature, would set a bad precedent for other departments in the university who face the same mandated increases; and,

WHEREAS, the student group that oversees this department, the Student Center Board of Directors, did not approve of this fee increase; now; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate does not support the Student Center Operations fee increase of $10.00; and; therefore be it further

RESOLVED, that the North Carolina State University Student Senate encourages the University Student Center to continue in its efforts to generate more revenue, as it has done in past years, to subsidize future and current mandated increases.
