WHEREAS, current articles in the Student Body Statues limit the
planning of the NightWalk event to a few students and does not encourage
faculty and staff participation on the program; and,
WHEREAS, Campus Security Task Force established by the request of the
Chancellor, states
1.11 Information about Night Walk, the
campus community “walkabout” designed to identify security or safety risks,
should be distributed to faculty and staff to encourage their
participation.
Students are aware of Night Walk and
participate in the program, but there is little advertising and communication
to faculty and staff. Faculty and staff
participation should be encouraged.”; and
WHEREAS, since the establishment of the task force, faculty and staff
involvement has increased significantly while student participation remain
inadequate; and
WHEREAS, the NightWalk event aims to provide a safe environment for
residents on campus, students and faculty in evening classes, as well as staff
member working night shifts on campus facilities and campus community who uses
those facilities at night; leaders from these areas should be encouraged to
help plan the event;
WHEREAS, the Associate Directors of
Community Service Department coordinate NightWalk and various other projects
that benefit the Student Body and the NCSU community, are limited in authority,
and subject to confirmation by the Senate; as such, the statutes should allow opportunities
for all Student Government Officials to serve as Associate Directors of
Community Service; now therefore be
it,
ENACTED, by the North Carolina State University Student Senate that:
Section 1. §3-7.7.
Associate Directors of Community
Service.
Each of the several standing service projects shall be headed by an Associate Director of Community Service, who shall be considered a dual office holding exempt Student Government Official. In addition to such duties related to the administration of his or her respective project, each Associate Director shall assist the Director in completing the duties of the department, especially those involving projects similar to the respective standing project.
§3-7.23 Nightwalk Commission.
The Student Body Commission on Nightwalk shall be a Student Body Commission, in residence to the Department, and shall be charged with the planning and execution of the event, including but not limited to co-ordination with the Campus Police and Facility Operations Departments of the University, as well as the promotion of the event to the Student and Faculty Bodies.
§3-7.24 Nightwalk Commission
Membership.
The Nightwalk Commission shall be chaired by the Associate Director for Nightwalk and shall have in addition between one (1) and two (2) members from each of the following groups:
(a) Inter-Residence Council (IRC)
(b) Greek organizations representing member chapters in University-owned housing.
(c) University Affairs Committee of the Student Senate
(d) Student Senate, at-large
(e) Student Body, at-large
All members shall be appointed by the Student Body President.
§3-7.25. Nightwalk Commission
Operation.
In addition to being made available to the student body, all meetings of the commission shall be announced to Faculty and Staff Senates. Any member of the Faculty or Staff who desires to participate in the commission may indicate such to the chair, and shall then be entitled to all privileges of membership, but shall have no vote.
Section 2. This act shall be effective upon its enrollment.
