ENTILED AN ACT TO ESTABLISH NEEDED STUDENT BODY STATUTE LANGAUGE IN REGARDS TO
AUTOMATIC VETO OVERIDE

WHEREAS, the Student Body President has the authority to veto bills passed by the Student Senate; and,
WHEREAS, the Senate by a two-thirds vote can override any veto of the Student Body President; and,
WHEREAS, several times a preemptive veto by the Student Senate has been used; and,
WHEREAS, in order to preserve the right of the Student Body President to veto legislation and encourage limiting the use of automatic overrides of the veto power to time sensitive or strongly supported issues; now therefore be it,
ENACTED, by the North Carolina State University Student Senate that:
Section 1. Rule 21 of the Chapter 2
Student Body Statutes shall be amended and creation of a new subsection c and the
following inserted:
(c) Automatic Veto Override.
The Student Senate may automatically override any potential veto of the
Student Body President if the following criteria are met:
(i) Upon filing, the bill
includes in the resolved section a provision for an automatic veto override;
(ii) A committee may not amend a bill to include an automatic veto override;
(iii) Twenty Four (24) hour notice is served to the Student Government list serve stating an amendment will be offered to include the above language in the legislation; and,
(iv) If any automatic veto override is to be considered enrolled, the bill must pass the Senate by a 3/4th vote of all members present and voting provided a quorum exists.
Section 2. This act shall be effective upon
adjournment Sine Die.
