Short Title: 2009-2010 Fee Proposal Recommendations Act

WHEREAS, all proposed fee increases to take effect beginning with the 2008-2009 academic year have been presented and currently await formal recommendation to the Board of Trustees by the Chancellor; and,

WHEREAS, presentations have been made in support of each proposed fee increase and are viewable online by the students, faculty, and staff; and

WHEREAS, the student body voted on these proposed fee increases in the 2008 Fee Referenda; and

WHEREAS, a new Carmichael Complex Debt Service Fee of $23.00 has been proposed; and,

WHEREAS, a fee increase of $20.00 has been proposed for the Education & Technology Fee, an increase of 5.39% from the current rate of $371.00 per academic year; and,

WHEREAS, a fee increase of $30.00 has been proposed for the Intercollegiate Athletics Debt Service Fee, an increase of 45.45% from the current rate of $66.00 per academic year; and,

WHEREAS, a fee increase of $25.50 has been proposed for the Intercollegiate Athletics Appropriations Fee, an increase of 19.03% from the current rate of $134.00 per academic year; and

WHEREAS, a new International Scholarships Fee of $6.00 has been proposed; and

WHEREAS, a fee increase of $10.24 has been proposed for the Recreational Sports Fee, an increase of 9.09% from the current rate of $112.60 per academic year; and

WHEREAS, a fee increase of $3.08 has been proposed for the Student Government Fee, an increase of 34.80% from the current rate of $8.85 per academic year; and

WHEREAS, a fee increase of $14.00 has been proposed for the Student Health Services Fee, an increase of 6.01% from the current rate of $233.00 per academic year; and

WHEREAS, a new Sustainability Fee of $10.00 has been proposed; and

WHEREAS, a fee increase of $0.83 has been proposed for the Union Activities Board Fee, an increase of 6.01% from the current rate of $13.80 per academic year; and

WHEREAS, a fee increase of $12.74 has been proposed for the University Student Center Operations Fee, an increase of 6.26% from the current rate of $203.40 per academic year; and

WHEREAS, a fee increase of $1.87 has been proposed for the University Student Center Reparirs & Renovations Fee, an increase of 6.52% from the current rate of $28.70 per academic year; therefore be it

RESOLVED, the NC State University Student Senate supports the proposed $23.00 for the Carmichael Complex Debt Service Fee because repairs are need to the pools, tennis courts, roof, and locker rooms; and be it further,

RESOLVED, the Senate supports an increase of $5.00 out of the proposed $20.00 increase to the Educations & Technology Fee because of the need to replace computers in many colleges; and be it further,

RESOLVED, the Senate opposes the proposed $30.00 increase for the Intercollegiate Athletics Debt Service Fee; and be it further,

RESOLVED, the Senate opposes the proposed $25.50 increase to the Intercollegiate Athletics Appropriations Fee; and be it further,

RESOLVED, the Senate supports $1.00 out of $6.00 International Scholarship Fee because of the value students bring back to campus; and be it further,

RESOLVED, the Senate supports an increase of $5.00 out of the proposed $10.24 for the Recreational Sports Fee because of rising costs; and be it further,

RESOLVED, the Senate supports an increase of $2.00 out of the proposed $3.08 for the Student Government Fee because of rising appropriations requests; and be it further,

RESOLVED, the Senate supports an increase of $7.00 out of the proposed $14.00 for the Student Health Services Fee because of rising medical inflation and student demand; and be it further,

RESOLVED, the Senate opposes $1.00 out of $10.00 Sustainability Fee because of the value in efficient use of energy; and be it further,

RESOLVED, the Senate supports the $0.83 increase proposal for the Union Activities Board; and be it further,

RESOLVED, the Senate supports $2.00 out of the proposed $12.74 increase to the University Student Center Operations Fee because of need salary increases; and be it further,

RESOLVED, the Senate supports the $1.75 increase proposal for Student Center Repairs and Renovation Fee; and be it further,

RESOLVED, that the Student Senate strongly urges the Chancellor and the Fee Review Committee to give due weight to these recommendations, as well as the views of the students in the Fee Referenda
