A RESOLUTION TO EXPRESS THE SENSE OF THE STUDENTS OF NC STATE UNIVERSITY AGAINST HATE SPEECH

WHEREAS, the  chalking of "KKK" on our campus walkways and public spaces has awakened the Wolfpack family to unite behind what we all know to be true - there is no place for hate speech at NC State University; and,

 

WHEREAS, hate speech is any speech that is intended to harass, intimidate, or degrade others; and,

 

WHEREAS, hate speech, while still protected as free speech under the United States Constitution, must not go unchallenged; and,

 

WHEREAS, in order for our campus to thrive, we all must work toward a positive atmosphere where students feel welcome and capable of achieving their full potential; now therefore be it

 

RESOLVED,  we must all confront and denounce this kind of speech in every corner of our university; and be it further,

 

RESOLVED, we live by the values of equity for all people and mutual respect for every member of the human race regardless of race, color, religion, creed, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status; and be it further,

 

RESOLVED, we stand by these values so that our generation and generations of students to come can all benefit from the diverse, welcoming, and empowering community that is NC State.
