A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO SUPPORT THE REQUIREMENT FOR THE SUBMISSION OF MIDTERM GRADES

 


Short Title: Midterm Grade Reporting Act

WHEREAS,    NC State University commits in its mission statement to the service of its students and encourages them to take responsibility for their own education; and,

 

WHEREAS,    many courses provide little to no feedback regarding a studentÕs grades or performance until midterm exams; and,

 

WHEREAS,    incoming freshman are used to smaller class sizes and attention from teachers when performing poorly and can struggle with the transition from high school to college; and,

 

WHEREAS,    all students rely on proper and constant feedback to make the proper decision regarding course enrollment before the eight (8) week drop date; and,

 

WHEREAS,    the University interface provides a quick and efficient means of submitting Progress Reports to students and advisors, a tool which is currently underutilized; now therefore be it,

 

RESOLVED,  the North Carolina State University Student Senate supports the First Year Transition CommitteeÕs recommendations requiring the submission of Progress Reports for first year students; and be it further,

 

RESOLVED, that professors should be required to submit these reports for students during the sixth (6th) week of the semester; and be it further,

 

RESOLVED,  that the University continue to promote student success by expanding this policy to students with a C or worse at the sixth week of the semester regardless of classification or class level; and be it further,

 

RESOLVED, that the University continue to promote student success by also expanding this 
                        program to include all undergraduate courses within the next 2 academic years; 
                        and be it further,
 
RESOLVED, that this bill shall be effective upon enrollment.
