RESOLUTION 14

A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT CONCERNING THE PROPOSED INCREASE IN THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION FEE

WHEREAS,the Department of Physical Education has requested an increase of $4.00 in the Physical Education Fee, raising the fee to a total of $58.00; and,

WHEREAS,intramural and recreational sports are an important part of university life, providing healthy competition both within and between universities; and,

WHEREAS,the maintenance of effective intramural and recreational activities requires extensive investment in personnel and equipment; and,

WHEREAS,intramural and recreational activities have grown extensively over the past few years with only minimal fee increases; and,

WHEREAS,the requested increase would primarily fund student salaries, club sports, and graduate assistantships; and,

WHEREAS,an increase in wages is required to combat the loss of supervisors, officials, lifeguards, and facility personnel; and,

WHEREAS,the number of teams in the club sports program has increased dramatically while its funding has remained constant; and,

WHEREAS,the graduate assistant is currently overworked and unable to provide excellent service; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED,that the NC State University Student Senate recommends that the University grant the request for a $4.00 increase in the Physical Education Fee; and, be it further

RESOLVED,that the NC State University Student Senate asks for immediate and direct input into the allocation procedure for the Physical Education fee regarding club sports.
