President Hinton called the Senate to order at 7:30 PM

 

Roll Call

 

There were thirty-two (32) Senators (Adams, Barnes, Buffkin, Cariaga, Carter, Collins, Compton, Erica Evans, Fabricius, Gardner, Gluck, Griggs, Haggard, Hankins, Heath, Hutcherson, Lam, Melton, Oluronbi, Phillips, Price, Salama, Santiago, Saunders, Shaw, Stephenson, Templeton, Walton, Weston, Whitehouse, Winfree, Yasin) present.

 

There were eight (8) Senators (Brannan, Daugherty (em), Hardy, Hoy, Rice, Rondell Smith, Sohail, Thornton) absent.

 

A quorum was present.

Approval of the Journal

 

The journal for April 20th, 2005 stands approved as written

Receipt of notice of resignation from Sen. Daugherty; Resignation accepted by general consent.

 

Pressing Concerns of the University

Mr. Forrest Hinton, Student Senate President, discusses the current proceedings concerning the University budget at the North Carolina General Assembly.  Chancellor Oblinger has suggested that Student Senators visit or write a letter to State legislators.  President Hinton distributes NCSU letterhead to the Senators, and challenges Senators to contact no less than five (5) State legislators.

 

Reports of the Officers

Mr. Seneca Toms, Student Body Treasurer-comments on appropriations checks from the 84th session, and speaks in support of AB 04, The Senate Hall Refit Act.

Ms. Jennifer Edwards, Student Body Chief Justice-elect-Reminds the Senate that application process for Judicial Assistants closes today, and describes the commitments of the position.  The Judicial Branch will conduct business over the summer, including training of Assistants. Responds to Sen. Hutcherson’s request for information regarding scheduling of space in the Judicial board room; reservations are being handled by Ms. Cira SG Administrative Assistant.  Responds to Sen. Hoy’s request for statistics of past Judicial Board operations.

Sen. Hisham Salama, Student Senate President Pro Tempore-Discusses business of the Rules and Calendar meeting, and announces his availability over the Summer break.
