- Dr. Deb Luckadoo and the Student Centers Expansion Task-Force
If you have any questions please feel free to ask, this is a great idea…we were informed that our formula was not quite right we are trying to combine different salaries, we would like to do as much as we can to get as much space as we can with as little money as possible, the task force will compile not filter the information, this is a several year process, Tally has great needs, it is a great location for central campus we are trying to get more student friendly space in Tally
Jessica Horton (CSLEPS): We want to expand current facilities and have space to be very flexible, create more “student friendly” buildings, in order to reach this we have three current options.
Q: Senator Fabricius
Q: Senator Sawrey: Will I see this before I graduate.
A: No, probably not
Q: Senator Hutcherson: One thing we could recommend is to use the space upstairs, as a student I believe that price is an intricate part of student centers, you’ve heard individuals offer price and office space are you going to bring these issues to the committees
A: Jessica Horton: There will be more space
- Mr. Bobby Mills, UNCASG Project
We sponsored a phone call in's, and if you have any comments please give them to Haley
Letter of Resignation
- Consent of Hardy’s resignation
- Consent of Weston’s resignation
- Consent of Melton’s resignation
Reports of the Officers
- Mr. Seneca Toms, Student Body Treasurer
Good Evening, I have a new comptroller appointment, I would like to thank the appropriations committee, I would also like to thank the senators that sponsored those request, if you go to treasury website the student government budget will be online, the tables are here. Chap 5 revisions review coming up this evening
- Albert Minn: I’m speaking on half of Jennifer (student chief justice)
This evening, we’ve had two suspensions since our last meeting, the judicial board is concerned with 78 and 79 and there are some inaccuracies in these resolutions, resolution 78 does not resolve student behaviors, also not pictures that are the only thing being taken into account in these cases, and the fact that this information was able to be viewed by board is already stated, all things stated 79 were already stated in student conduct, the office of student conduct is not going out to browse wolf web and face book
Senator Fabricius: moves to take SR 16 from the table
Moving into consideration of SR 16
Consent called and objected too
Minn: I was told by Paul Cousins that I was not needed to be here for confirmation
Hutcherson: The student government statutes show how someone is confirmed if you follow those how can you not follow those and uphold the constitution
Minn: our is not based upon student constitution, but rather board of trustees, the confirmations by senate have had no bearings on how people are confirmed
Toms: We you aware that you can not be paid without being confirmed?
Minn: This is not an issue
Senator Adams: I had a question about the resolution concerning the resolution being unethical
Minn: It is the judicial boards opinion, not mine only
Q: Senator Barnes: You said that the office of student conduct has the right to examine personal right to view electronic evidence and I’m wondering where they have received the right to do that
SSP Hinton: He can’t just obtain that information
Minn: Paul Cousins has the right to obtain information through ITD, it is my understanding that these sponsors did not talk to the student conduct board, the authority is probably derived through the board of trustees
Q: Senator Adams
Minn, we believe that the word incriminating should be removed because the senate should be enforcing the students to act ethically
Q: Senator Barnes: We are supporting what your boss said
Minn: We believe that we should not lead them to remove incriminating evidence but rather to act ethically
Senator Hutcherson: The student body statues are ethical and he said that if you had any embarrassing items to remove it
Minn: I think that incriminating and embarrassing are two different things
Senator Hutcherson: I find it highly disturbing that administrators believe you can ignore the constitution
Minn: Our power does not come through constitution
Q: Senator Sawrey: Were you at the town hall meeting
Minn: Correct, I’m stating our position on these two resolutions and the judicial board operates with the board of student conduct
Senator Hutcherson: if there are pictures that show unlawful acts should students leave them of take them down
Minn: The office of student conduct is advocating that students act appropriately
SSP Hinton: Have the students seen the evidence
Minn: 4 are being processed through University Housing and 5 through student conduct, the ones through student conduct will see al evidence
Q Senator Sevits: If information to be used against you isn’t available before you’re being charged, student conduct can hold it as a lingering threat, the student knows about it but can’t react about it until student conduct does the first step.
Minn: Its not something that the office of student conduct does indiscriminately, as far as office of student conduct obtaining evidence for a certain period of time I have no evidence or information
Q: Senator Sawrey: do you feel that it would be helpful to the students to know whether it would be helpful for students to be able to know the student conducts jurisdiction
Minn: student code of conduct article 4.1
- Mr. Whil Piavis, Student Body President
Thank you for working on the chained by tuition campaign, this Wednesday the Bowles will be at the Chancellor’s house but he will not be bale to address issues because he is not the president yet, because of parking fine cuts the red terror has no money, and it will come out of student fees community service and service Raleigh has gone under way and Night walk is approaching fast and the ASG retreat went well this weekend and Jason Moody has been fired
Q: Hutcherson: What is going on with mission Mardi gras
A: SBP: We have pushed this into the spring
Q: Fabricius: As you know we are dealing with the judicial board separation from the SG and there is a referendum up tonight, are you willing to sign this
- Hinton: Tonight we are going for the final step so that students will be voting to separate this
A: SBP: Yes I will be signing this
Mr. Hisham Salama, Student Senate President Pro Tempore
I apologize for not being at the meeting last week, I’m always available for contact, and if you have any questions ask now
Mr. Forrest Hinton, Student Senate President, chains by tuition is going well, also we will be advocating on capital hill against the higher education bill, we do want to make sure they see us The face book town hall meeting was a success, “students need to be involved with this new conversation”, good job appropriations committee, appeals very thorough, we did receive a response from Chancellor Oblinger, and he really does want students on the commission for athletic event improvements, and he does respect restrictions on tailgating, we talked about student centers fee as well, I suggested more students be on fee review committee, make sure you are present at the meeting
Senator Phillips and Senator Compton: They have been hitting up the large organizations. Want each senator to reach the 100. Next week is the big push. Currently turned in are 2000 links.

Sen. Mickey: One of the main things with University Dining we talked about is that there is no dining plan on centennial campus
Jessuca Horton: Next week is national hunger week
Sen. Sevits: [Read response from the Inter-Residence Council
regarding the alleged Alexander alcohol policy violations] IRC feels that is
was unfortunate that students were accused for these incidents however they
feel that University Housing followed correct procedure in handling the
situation, following through with sanctions. IRC has utmost confidence in
University Housing to continue to address the situation but also
would like to participate in further discussion regarding the issues
surrounding these incidents. -- The dining committee met recently and is
looking for student feedback on options for centennial. I plan to get with Sen.
Barnes and the Univ. Affairs committee to discuss this later however I felt I
should mention this for anyone is also interested in this issue. This is an
issue I’m looking to help address.

N: Walton: I deferred my judgment to those who are engineer majors, due to the past this project failed, I deemed their success very low

N: Hutcherson: This is something we did wrestle with in the committee
Friendly amendment
Carter: I withdrawal my amendments
Subtract 300 from men’s lacrosse club and 300 from wolves din in order to give money to underwater robotics

Comments/Announcements
Hutcherson: who is the individual that does want us to include price?
Compton: You need to sign up if you haven’t
Sevits: What we do enacting legislation is a little important but what is really important is what we do out of this room. I heard people yelling their votes tonight on the bill we just passed. [Notes strongly that he hopes the Student Senate would be committed to actions to bring about positive long term changes beyond only action by legislation and suggests how to become involved; joining the Inter-Residence Council Emerging Issues committee being one way to work towards future improvements as this will be an issue they are looking to address this year].
