COMMITTEE REPORT
Report No. GO-44
SENATE RESOLUTION S10
Senator Erich M. Fabricius submitted the following report regarding Senate Resolution S10, "Hines Impeachment", on Tuesday, February 27, 2001, on behalf of the Government Operations Committee, and pursuent to its February 26, 2001 recommendations, by unamimous consent:
As provided by Senate Rule 12(b), the committee requests that the Senate President place SR S10 on the calendar for second reading.
There were eight (8) Senators (Brown, Burgess-Ford, Carlson, Denton, Engler, Fabricius, Mangum, Mcilmail.) present;
There was one (1) Senator (Davis.) absent;
A quorum was present.
This act impeaches Senator Hines for excess total absences. This is consistent with the provisions of Senate Rule 2 and SBS Chapter 2, Article 2.
Senator Hines is alleged to have missed 12 senate roll calls and committee meetings. The Student Body Statutes provide Senators shall be charged with excessive total absences if they exceed 12 such missed roll calls or committee meetings.
The committee heard no evidence refuting the likelihood of the absences. The committee dicussed the fact that the reasons for the absences were not relevant to the charge or specifications.
The committee recommends the Senate consider this act at its earliest convenience.
