COMMITTEE REPORT
Report No. TF-03
Senator Brad Adams submitted the following report on Wendesday, November 8, 2000, on behalf of the Tuition and Fees Committee, and pursuent to its November 8, 2000 recommendations:
There were four (4) Senators (Adams, Luce, Pendergrass, Wicks.) present;
There were four (4) Senators (Dixon, Jackson, Mayhew, Dean Powell.) absent;
A quorum was not present.
Senator Fabricius and Julie Mallette, Director of Financial Aid, were our guests that were present.
Julie Malette met with the committee to discuss several issues concerning financial aid. She informed the committee that there is a large amount of confusion on the student's part of the role of Financial Aid and the role of the Cashier's Office. She said that the job turnover rate in her department as well as the Cashier's Office was currently very high, and that this was affecting the level of service. In order to help Ms. Mallette evaluate her department, members of the Tuition and Fees Cmte. wil be randomly making appointments with Financial Aid Counselors, and making evaluations. These evaluations will be done without the counselor's knowledge, and after the committee has evaluated each counselor, we will sit down and have a conference with each counselor and discuss what they can do to be more student-friendly. Committee members will be performing this "espionage evaluation" during the months of November and February, two peak business times for the Financial Aid Office. The cmte. will also be working closely with Ms. Mallette to create a new student evaluation form, as well as a "cheat sheet" guide to financial aid. The cmte. adjourned at approximately 630 PM.
