COMMITTEE REPORT
Report No. GO-55
GOVERNMENT BILL 87
Senator Erich M. Fabricius submitted the following report regarding Government Bill 87, "An Act to Remove the Office of Senior Class Vice President from Chapter 7 Election Statues", on Tuesday, April 2, 2002, on behalf of the Government Operations Committee, and pursuant to its March 24, 2002 recommendations, by general consent:
As provided by Senate Rule 12(b), the committee requests that the Senate President place Government Bill 87 on the calendar for second reading.
There were six (6) Senators (Brown, Fabricius, Joyner, Mangum, Tatum, Wright) present;
There were two (2) Senators (Denton, White) absent;
A quorum was present.
The Removal of the election of Senior Class Vice President Act removes the Senior Class Vice President as an elected office and establishes regulations concerning filing for the office of Senior Class President.
The current chapter 7 statutes, adopted this year, now include explicitly several non-Student Government offices that routinely received ballot space. Among those were the Senior Class President and Vice President.
The Committee was inclined to accept the request of the current Senior Class administration.
The Committee recommends that the Senate consider Government Bill 87.
The committee amended the sentance beginning on line 25 to read: "To be considered qualified, the candidate must furnish the Commission with written notice from The Director of Constituency Programs that such a meeting has occurred with his or her intent-to-run form.
The Committee changed the effective date in Section 4 to "April 15, 2002"
