Chairman Forrest Hinton submitted the following report regarding Resolution 91, "AN ACT MANDATING FRESHMAN PROGRESS REPORT DISTRIBUTION ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE DROP DATE FOR POOR PERFORMING STUDENTS", on Tuesday, April 6th 2004, on behalf of the Academics Committee, and pursuant to its Tuesday, April 6th 2004 recommendations, by general consent:
As provided by Senate Rule 14(b), the committee requests that the Senate President place Resolution 91 on the calendar for second reading.
There were six (6) Members (Adams, Cobb, Crouch, Hinton, Pearce, Reese) present.
There were four (4) Members (Brobst, Debrecht, Humphrey, Moussa) absent.
A quorum was present.
The following officials were also present: Lester, Leung
Requires teachers and professors to provide a progress report for freshmen in predominantly-freshmen classes prior to the 6-week drop date.
-Many freshmen are immature and finding academic difficulty in the introductory year.
-This bill has been thoroughly researched, debated, and amended since November 2003.
