Committee Minutes, Wednesday, March 29th 2006

Vice-chairman Ashley Winfree submitted the following report to the Student Senate on Friday, March 31st 2006, on behalf of the Academics Committee, and pursuant to its Wednesday, March 29th 2006 recommendations:

Attendance:

There were six (6) members (Dimond, Hager, Hankins, Musick, Shivers, Winfree) present.

There was one (1) member (Kling) absent. There was also one (1) suspended member (Oluronbi) absent.

The following officials were also present: Adams, Cariaga, Collins, Compton, Hassell, F. Hinton, Mickey, Miller, Toms, Walton.

A quorum was present.

- Agreement to not favor a common drop deadline

- Unanimous decision to not re-consider Professor Accountability Act and
WebAssign Elimination Act on basis that sponsor did not follow up with
conditions stated in the previous Academics Committee meeting

- Motion to suggest reducing number of hours in GER

- Motion to suggest reducing hour requirements in Humanities and Social Sciences
- Passed by majority

- Motion to reduce English requirement
- Motion failed

- Motion to suggest reducing hour requirements in Mathematics and Natural Sciences

- Motion to allow students the flexibility to choose which PE courses
they take

- Motion to not change the curricula within the GER
