Committee Minutes, Wednesday, March 15th 2006
Secretary Jessica Caroline Collins submitted the following report to the Student Senate on Wednesday, March 15th 2006, on behalf of the Campus Community Committee, and pursuant to its Wednesday, March 15th 2006 recommendations:
There were six (6) members (Adams, Collins, Haggard, Santiago, Whitehouse, Wilburn) present.
There were no members absent.
The following officials were also present: Compton, Hankins, Walton.
A quorum was present.
Campus Community Meeting 3/15/2006
I. Introduction
II. R127 Additional Student Ticket Act and R 135 Carter- Finley Reallocation Act
-motion made for the sponsors to combine the two acts and postpone vote until next committee meeting, the sponsors agreed, consent to postpone vote until next committee meeting
III. R 131
-Senator Walton: stated he has witnessed the activity in Vaughn Towers and feels that rules should be the same for students as others attending sporting event.
- committee voted to postpone this bill until the next meeting and gives these suggestions to Sen. Walton to edit or rewrite the existing bill:
-change title
-do not want to insinuated taking privileges away from groups
-to add incentives and privileges, i.e. events before the game
IV. R 134 Band Seating Reallocation Act
-Senator Compton: bands sound gets lost and the visitor band drowns out the sound of our band.
-committee suggests checking with athletics on the reasons why they are currently sat where they are and what will happen with the new stadium renovations
-committee votes to postpone the bill after more research and more information is collected
V. Project HOWL update
-Sen. Santiago:
- suggests everyone should sign up to get the calendar account, Oracle,
which is in working progress but will contain all information for events on campus, it should be up and fully running in the fall
-Suggests that a senator seat be assigned to the task force, perhaps the webmaster, and that the future SSP make announcements about it to help publicize
VI. Brainstorm new ideas/ legislation
A. Update on elimination of opposite sex visiting hours in residence halls.
-Sen. Santiago: this policy comes under the Board of Trustees and IRC would have to present a case to administrators before it would be put on the trustees agenda, Cody Williams is the only one in support of this
B. Update on possibility of creating opposite gender halls in all residence halls
-Sen. Santiago: this idea was completely shot down, however some dorms are already in the process of creating co-ed floors
