Committee Minutes, Tuesday, November 1st 2005
Secretary Sara Yasin submitted the following report to the Student Senate on Sunday, November 6th 2005, on behalf of the Committee on Appropriations, and pursuant to its Tuesday, November 1st 2005 recommendations:
There were seven (7) Members (Compton, Hutcherson, Lam, Miller, R. Smith, Walton, Yasin) present. There was also one (1) non-voting member (Toms) present.
There were two (2) Members (Gluck, Gula) absent.
The following officials were also present: Barnes, Carter, Hankins, F. Hinton, Sevits, Whitehouse.
A quorum was present.
Second meeting for appeals, discussed final decisions on how funds would be allocated
MENASA :AR 08
-Originally $300.00
-Request $1500.00
-IRC and FYC no funding, but cosponsor from Honors and Scholars a piece $400.00
-Tickets of Honors and Scholars is subtracted from the 400 a piece
-Open to anyone, but if last resort charge to non-students But would have charge to print tickets
International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience: AR 11

Campus Arts Council: AR 32
- Arts department always asks Scrap Exchange to do event
- Arts doesn’t pay event, the faculty serve the food, etc. Campus Arts Council finances the event
- Clean up/ set-up
- Over 500 people attend Night Owls event, not sure how many actually participate
- Free event
- Did it during fall semester for one night
African American Textile Society: AR 133
- Revised it that day, budget requests $886
- Trying to do it before the actual other fashion show
- Can push date earlier, March 3rd or very end of February
- Priorities: DJ, lights, publicity,
Women’s Lacrosse: AR 42
- Miscommunication
- asked for $600, member dues $40, spring $55
- Extremely unorganized, need to make own fall/spring schedules
- Need to increase skills, want to reach varsity status at NCSU
- Do it per semester, because team shifts
- Number one priority: would like new kilts for the team
- T-shirts etc. w/men’s lacrosse, team never fundraised before, next semester plans on trying to organize high school clinic
- scorebook to keep stats….chalk, ball bag, lose balls a lot
- Skirts are priority
Hindu Student Council: AR 65, AR 68
- For fall seminar series, can only cover $350,
- Hold seminars every semester
- Raise funds every semester, large turnout (other schools, many students, faculty, non-students)

- Most can fund is $150, because can only match what is on event
Mu Beta Psi: AR 15
- Fully funded two years ago
- Use money to help marching band, marching band important part of game
- Why can’t person bring own apple? Have to stow all gear on moving van, can only carry instrument & music, space so compact
- Apples rot
Poultry Science Club: AR 75
- President added as representative rather than treasurer
- Chick booth at fair gives children chance to play with baby chicks, get to play with them
- Interacts with community/ and informs
- Whole list is income
- What specifically goes towards this event? T-shirts sold at booth, money comes from t-shirt goes to it for next year
Committee for a Better University: AR 111
- Want event support bc got a good response, two front page pictures
- Had positive effect
- One time request, for flags, buy them, and have them every year
Sailing Club at NCSU: AR 115
- Requested $4,000, did not get any because more questions to be asked
- Primary purpose trying to buy new fleet
- Start up cost towards becoming self-sufficient
- Happy to accept anything given
- Have raised $3,000 so far
- Working with Alumni, etc
- Regatta once a weekend, school starts -> spring semester
- Maintenance cost, not cheap
- Pride selves on having lowest dues, in order to get it out to students
- Raised it by 50% 2 years ago
North Carolina Student Legislatures: AR 98 AR 99
- Brand new organization, started forming in September
- Big thing popped up, $60 filing fee, secretary of state office, so can get non-profit status
- Can’t exceed amount filed for, sorry fake senate!
- Moved fundraising to trip/travel
- Based off of going to interim councils
EKTAA: AR 05
- Received zero dollars for funding
- How much show going to effect campus
- Meant to be $2500
- Cultural differences in south Asia
- Have less than $3,000, group asking for $3,000, need to pay for Stewart Theatre
Sigma Omicron Epsilon: AR 79, AR 80
- Need money to help with programs
- Everything in budget, but mainly the 3 events
- Speaker fee
- 75-100 come out to speaker

- $215 per undergraduate member
- Buses have to have for safety bc all events off campus (mcKimmon center, or at houses)
Peer Mentor Program: AR 139
- Need $750 more

Underwater Robotics Club: AR 14
- Even if did receive funding, robot would not be able to be built
- 2200 to build robot, can build robot on a ¼ of the budget
Student Chapter of the American Society of Lab Animal Pract
- must be paid before spring window
Native American Student Association: AR 44
- Planned fundraising is from other organizations
- Warriors answer questions, tell stories, raise a lot of interest from organizations
- 50 people in class required, 200 on campus (Park scholars), scheduled for Campus Cinema, could fill it up
SMASH CLUB: AR 71
- Didn’t show up because stressed
- Want to get club going, had event earlier, a lot of interest
- make meetings go more smoothly advertisement
- 68 people attended, IRC funded it
- 65 members, no dues yet
- Generating revenue by dues, entry fees
Biomedical Engineering Club: AR 117
