Committee Minutes, Wednesday, August 29th 2007

Chairman Adam G. Compton submitted the following report to the Student Senate on Thursday, August 30th 2007, on behalf of the Finance Committee, and pursuant to its Wednesday, August 29th 2007 recommendations:

Attendance:

There were four (4) members (Beam, Compton, Douglas, McCullough) present. There was also one (1) non-voting member (Foxx) present.

There was one (1) member (Storm) absent.

The following officials were also present: Doucette, Joyner, B. Mills, Weeks, Whiteside.

A quorum was present.

1.) Chairman’s Remarks and Standard Budget Report
· Foxx: discusses office hours for any student to come
o No money has been spent since last time
o Trying to get out of printer contract and wants to make a contract with WolfCopy
o Printer costs will be cheaper
o $2,000 for printer costs had to be paid out of the reserves at the end of the summer.
2.) Budget Concerns and Re-appropriation
o Mills: referred comments about packet to Josh
o Josh: discusses gas money
o Foxx: disagrees with the term “salary”
o Compton: proposes the idea of bringing in the receipt in order to get reimbursed
o Mills: discusses athletics/traditions commission
~Asks for increase in money for games; about 12,000-15,000
~Should have asked for more money for the rotary transit
~Going to private businesses to ask for funding
o Whiteside: asking for $1,000 to pay for shirts and academic programs for both semesters.
o Foxx: discusses how out of $30,000, we should save at least $6,000 for reserve
~$2,500 under minimum
~needs $500 for sandwich boards
~Harris field pig-pickin party
o Mills: explains how student government will pay for disposable cameras in order to show the success of the WITH program
o Compton: asks if the $1,500 funding could come out of the executive branch and then get reimbursed.
o Compton motions to unfreeze the funds
o Douglas seconds the motion
o Proposal passes by consent.
