COMMITTEE REPORT
Report No. CC-09

RESOLUTION 50

Senator Arialle K. Crabtree submitted the following report regarding Resolution 50, "A RESOLUTION TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO AMEND THE STUDENT TICKETING PROCEDURES TO AWARD EXTRA LOYALTY POINTS", to the Student Senate on Sunday, January 24th 2010, on behalf of the Campus Community Committee, and pursuant to its Wednesday, January 20th 2010 recommendations, with 2 members voting in the affirmative, 1 in the negative, and 2 having abstained from voting:

As provided by Senate Rule, the committee requests that the Senate President place Resolution 50, on the calendar for second reading.

Attendance:

There were five (5) members (Bower, Center, Crabtree, Heath, Mills) present.

There was one (1) member (Blanchard) absent.

The following officials were also present: Devore, Goldsmith, Irwin, O'Donnell.

A quorum was present.

Purpose of Legislation:

R 50 would change the time that students must arrive before revenue sporting events from 45 minutes to 30 minutes, in order for students to receive two loyalty points.

Debate:

R50 student ticketing:
Patrick Devore-I have talked with athletics, supported but cant happen yet due to timing. Reasoning behind bill is the fact that there isn’t much for students at the RBC center and players don’t really come out until 30 minutes before the game. 45 minutes was put in place based on what the coaches have said; half an hour is okay but not exactly what the coaches want.

Brianne: I think the loyalty points put people behind in the first place and it isn’t fair to make it so easy to get points. It also puts students who didn’t receive tickets to the game behind.

Arialle: Besides rewarding good fans, this was put in place for safety to prevent masses of people rushing in all at one time. It helps deal with student traffic. Also we believe changing one would cause football to have to change to a half an hour as well which seems unnecessary given football games have a variety of pre-game entertainment.

Brianne: it helps deal with even just driving and parking for the games.

Arialle: the only real concern is that it would have to be changed for football too, and it wouldn’t work anymore to keep a steady flow of students into the stadium.

Recommendations:

We recommend that some of the language and grammar in the resolution be corrected. Also, we would like to know if the change will apply to football and basketball.
