Committee Minutes, Wednesday, September 30th 2009
Senator Jake Bloodworth submitted the following report to the Student Senate on Thursday, October 1st 2009, on behalf of the Tuition and Fees Committee, and pursuant to its Wednesday, September 30th 2009 recommendations:
There were three (3) members (Bloodworth, Jasmine Brown, Hayes) present.
There were two (2) members (Kosht, Lane) absent.
A quorum was present.

Meeting Overview:
This meeting was called to draft the Resolution which will be presented to the Senate to send our recommendation to the Chancellor regarding the proposed student fees for the 2010-2011 academic school year.

Senator Bloodworth called the meeting to order.
Bloodworth: We need to have our draft finished by the meeting so Kelli and I can review and edit the Resolution
Committee viewed the Chancellor’s recommendation
Committee viewed the original fee report
Bloodworth: Remember, we are keeping the fees under the 6.5% cap on increased costs
Members present discussed the committee’s positive view on the Talley project
Student Media wants to give free yearbooks to seniors for free
Athletics fees going towards “non-revenue” sports (aka. Not Football or Basketball)
Tuesday Oct. 6th – Fee Referendum
Sunday, Oct 4th—the Fee Proposal bill is due by noon
Committee discussed that they believe the following fees should be recommended (changes made to requested funds in order to still give some money to each of the organizations AND to stay under the 6.5% cap):
-- UAB Fee - $0.50 increase suggested out of $2.00 proposed
-- Student Publications Fee – $1.00 increase suggested out of $1.50 proposed
-- Intercollegiate Athletics Fee - $7.50 increase suggested out of $9.00 proposed
-- Educational & Technology Fee - $5.00 increase suggested out of $22.00 proposed
-- Transit Operations Fee ~ $5.00 increase suggested out of $8.00 proposed
-- Student Center-Expansion ~ $83.00 (graduated) is being suggested
-- Some organizations will be lowering their fees as well
Vote: All in favor, consent
Discussed wording choices for Talley to help reduce debate time
Bloodworth: Imperative to persuade with Talley
Brown: Everyone is getting something, so that’s good.
