Jim Ceresnak - Student Government Session 89 Student Body President

My name is Jim Ceresnak and I will be serving as your next student body president. I am a junior in the Political Science department at NC State and I will graduate in May 2010. My collegiate experience has been a wild one in many ways, but the experiences I have had, and the hard choices that I have made have readied me for the task of leading our University.

I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. After high school, I began my undergraduate career at the University of Georgia where I hoped to pursue a Journalism degree. At the time, I realized that UNC was the only college in North Carolina with a journalism school and I sure as hell wasn’t going there! So instead, I headed out-of-state.

But it didn’t take long for me to realize two important things – one was that I am not a journalist; the other was that I missed my home, North Carolina. I transferred to NC State to join the Wolfpack in 2007 and I have never looked back.

Transferring wasn’t easy, but I knew that coming to NC State would give me a great opportunity to pursue my dreams. I fell in love with this University and I began to become engaged in things much larger than myself.

I have found fulfillment working with Urban Christian Ministries, the YMCA and Communities in Schools. These vital institutions have shown me what a commitment to service is all about. As your next student body president, I pledge to embrace that commitment to service, open-mindedness, and integrity that our University needs and deserves.

As an outsider to NC State student politics, I feel that I can bring a fresh perspective to Student Government, while leading us through the times ahead. So stand with me as we build on our strong foundation, find solutions to problems, and make NC State the best university it can be!
